Can't get enough of that 40k... There was a great preview article in this week's PC Gamer on DoW II. It looks fantastic and is using the same graphics and physics engines as Company of Heroes.

We're getting destructible environments, more advanced cover, better squad AI, less resource management, and squads that improve with new war gear over the course of the single player campaign. Not much info on multi-player yet.

Space Marines and Orks are confirmed to be included although there will most likely be at least two more races by the time it's released. Relic do not seem to have nailed that down yet (or they're not talking about it anyway). Exciting stuff! :D

No it's firmly in the RTS world but with more of a focus on developing your force over the course of a campaign. At least in single player, multiplayer remain a mystery at this point. So I guess it has some RPG elements but it's still an RTS.

Yeah they've been pretty tightlipped about who the other races are going to be or even how many will be included in the initial release. I'm willing to bet one of them will be Chaos though.

One has to include both Orks and Chaos - they are the official "bad" races. You can't have the good vs. evil plot without it.

Indeed, I'm sure you're right and it'll be SM, Chaos, Orks and Eldar again. They'll be competing with Starcraft II though so the Tyranids might make an appearance instead. They're the only race that never made it to DoW which is surprising. The irony is that nobody will remember that the zerg were modeled after the tyranids, not the other way around. :D

One thing that'll be interesting to see is if they incorporate some of the changes in the newer GW codexes. The DoW armies are pretty close to codexes available at the time they were released. The codexes for all four of the original races have changed in the meantime so I'm curious to see if they modify the available unit mix. I hope not, my horror/berserker combo tactic works pretty well in DoW but the horrors got nerfed in the latest codex :P (as did the bloodthirster... double :P :P)

Starcraft 2 is looking awesome. The storyline will be brilliant. I can't see where it wouldn't. It will keep everyplayer enthralled to continue on to see the ending. I cannot wait for SC2! AS far as the tyrinids I'm not sure if they would make a viable army besides the hordes of attackers. Did they have at any time Missle weapons and support weapons?

I would hope that they do a 1st person shooter and bring back going through the space hulks and do other ship boarding. They could do so much for missions and story line write up. Wishful thinking?

Starcraft 2 does look good. If they do as good a job with that as they did on Warcraft 3 they'll have another winner.

Would Tyranids be successful? Was Starcraft successful with the Zerg?

Actually the tyranids have a lot of shooty units. Their strength is close combat but they do have some nasty shooting weapons, heavy weapons and even "tanks" (Carnifex, really nasty).

First person 40k? You may get your wish. THQ has an exclusive deal with Games Workshop to produce games based on the 40k properties. They are working with Vigil Games to produce a MMO version of 40k. There was some news on that in the latest PC Gamer too. It's really, really early in the process at the moment but there was some concept art.

Press Release

Ask and ye shall receive. :)

I picked that up in the $5 bin a few months ago. It started out ok but after two levels I was bored out of my tree. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I'd played it when it was new. It's just so dated as an FPS now I couldn't get past that. Spoiled, I am.

I think it would be really awesome to do a FPS with something like what BF2 or CD4. It would be cool to use terminator armor or perhaps aquire it as you go up in rank.

Start at the beginning as a scout, work your way up through the ranks and get new abilities as they add implants, get your bolter and power armor... and finally, put on the terminator armor and kick all sorts of righteous ass. It could be a very cool FPS done correctly.

Well keep an eye out on that 40k MMO. Too early to tell where they're going with that but the potential is there.
