Okay, I admit, even I'm not playing on it, but unlike UT3, I still play this when I get the chance. Usually via chasing steam friends.
What's popular?
I'd like to get some traffic on this thing aside from the 5am non-english speaking crowd.

All crits? No crits? Insta spawn? Party hats? Hydrogen filled dirigibles that cause fervent horror upon impact?

throw me some bones

btw, I did download phpbb3, I haven't had a chance to play with it, but I think I wanna just keep using this forum (since it's one of the few things I don't have to work on short of sending in complaints)

Möchten Sie einige Vorschläge?

Oh wait... you said 5:00 AM... sorry.

If you could offer free beer that would be a big draw but failing that, try insta-spawn for a while. It's not my personal favorite but it wouldn't stop me from playing and might draw a crowd in. It makes the games really chaotic but there's nothing wrong with that.

I would love to see random crashing zeppelins though. Oh the humanity!

I would not like some proposals but i will have some prostitutes with that.

The most simplist thing takes a german dude i speak too hours to explain, as at first the written German (most euro germanic languages) make little to no sense, whatch Euro 2008 football, then get a german person to explain the offside rule to you, that will hurt your brain...

Im hanging around Dutch peeps at the moment as i find their language a tad easier to understand as they generally spell it how we say it...

German is easy to understand once you realize they use Yoda syntax.

"Ich kann Ihre Sprache nicht verstehen." literally translates to:

"I can your language not understand." :D

Don't get me started on those crazy verbs where they break off a chunk and stick on the end of the sentence though. I think Mark Twain's exposition on the German language is one of the funniest things I've ever read:

http://www.crossmyt.com/hc/linghebr/awfgrmlg.html

On a semi-related note, I was watching German TV a couple weeks ago (being in Würzburg, that was my only option) and caught a news special on riots between English and German football fans from last year (lead up to Euro 2008 blah blah). They weren't painting your countrymen in a very favorable light I'm afraid. The graphic before and after the commercials showed a broken-nosed cockney facing off with a well groomed Deutsche Polizei riot cop. All very sensationalist. Of course the German fans they were interviewing were all saying "we were minding our own business and all of a sudden these English thugs...". Yeah right... is that a cobblestone you're holding there Hans?

ahahaah, I've never read that before (didn't finish the entire thing right now - I'll have to get back to it)

Quote:
"There are ten parts of speech, and they are all troublesome. An average sentence, in a German newspaper, is a sublime and impressive curiosity; it occupies a quarter of a column; it contains all the ten parts of speech -- not in regular order, but mixed; it is built mainly of compound words constructed by the writer on the spot, and not to be found in any dictionary -- six or seven words compacted into one, without joint or seam -- that is, without hyphens; it treats of fourteen or fifteen different subjects, each inclosed in a parenthesis of its own, with here and there extra parentheses which reinclose three or four of the minor parentheses, making pens within pens: finally, all the parentheses and reparentheses are massed together between a couple of king-parentheses, one of which is placed in the first line of the majestic sentence and the other in the middle of the last line of it -- after which comes the VERB, and you find out for the first time what the man has been talking about; and after the verb -- merely by way of ornament, as far as I can make out -- the writer shovels in "haben sind gewesen gehabt haben geworden sein," or words to that effect, and the monument is finished."

I also like the "separable verbs", where the word
departed = de + exhaustingly run on sentence + parted

My favorites are the "absteigen, ansteigen, aufsteigen, aussteigen" verbs.

Under certain circumstances you don't know if the guy is going up, down, in or out until the end of the sentence.

"Er stieg die Treppe ab/aus/auf/an"

You must admit though that the Germans speak rather direct, rather Toy'ish if i am so bold, some come across as 'thats it no further conversation/debate'.

The Dutch as well, very much say it as it is. I like the cloggies and they do not find being called 'cloggie' racist at all (thinking of saying Jap in a nice short way for Japanese is racist in some parts of the world).

Yeah you really do know where you stand with them which is kind of refreshing actually. And you won't be stuck waiting around for a German either. They'll always be on time :)

topic hijacked.

anyway, i think inta spawn + more crits + more custom maps would be awesome. but the insta spawn may be a problem on some maps (cp and pl)

Topic hijacking is a fine art with this crowd. There, see? I did it again :)

The whole custom maps thing seems to be a double-edged sword. Some people really like them and some people will avoid them. I think that won't necessarily boost attendance so much as rearrange the demographic. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing, mind you. People who dig the custom maps tend to be the better players.
I do think that some custom maps get really tired really quickly while others become instant classics. If someone is willing to keep an eye on trends and make sure we always have a list of hot maps it'll be more likely to draw people in.

As for the Wednesday thing I try to make it but it seems like I missed all the ones where people actually showed. :( I'll keep trying though.

Lets just frikken hope one of the Pyro unlocks is the IC, i know gman will like that as well as me :)

while the thought of setting an entire respawn on fire with a single rocket does make me warm and fuzzy, I guess we'll have to settle for the flare gun :)

Alex and I discussed maybe quicker recharging teleporters.

I like that idea. It doesn't create wholesale anarchy like faster respawns and rewards good team play. Good thought!
